The route from Akureyri to Egilsstaðir passes through the Mývatn area and is usually divided into two daily stages. For those who aren't in a hurry, the Mývatn region offers more than enough activities for an entire day. A detour through Húsavik and the Ásbyrgi Canyon to the Dettifoss waterfall is also worthwhile.
