Listing Overview

Immerse yourself in the history of Prenzlauer Berg with the audio guide "150 Steps into the History of Prenzlauer Berg." This tour takes you through 10 audio stations within the Sebastian Haffner Cultural and Educational Center. Starting with a glacial erratic, a Käthe Kollwitz sculpture, and a piece of the Berlin Wall, you will discover various objects and architectural details that serve as starting points to delve into the district's history and, by extension, a piece of Berlin's history.

Learn whether Prenzlauer Berg is really a hill, the story behind the beer boycott of 1894, what life was like in the surrounding "rental barracks," and the changes residents brought about in the 1980s. Discover the connection between all these events and the former school building that now houses the Cultural and Educational Center.

The audio walk was conceived, written, directed, and produced by Caroline Böttcher. Bernt Roder and Matthias Roch provided content consultation and editing, while Sonja Harth was responsible for sound design and arrangement. The audio recordings were made by Berthold Heiland and Caroline Böttcher, with sound editing by Caroline Böttcher and Sonja Harth. The narrators are Nina Kronjäger, Steffen Scheumann, and Timo Weisschnur.

We thank the Pankow Adult Education Center and the Library at the Water Tower for their support. This production by the Pankow Museum in 2023 was funded by the Draussenstadt program.
