Open-air museum tour of the Kurt Mühlenhaupt Museum
Listing Overview
Kurt Mühlenhaupt was a painter, sculptor, writer, and bon vivant who lived and worked in the West Berlin district of Kreuzberg from 1958 to 1975. Additionally, he was known as a junk dealer and pub owner. He was a unique character, and many great stories are told about him. Katharina Thalbach lends her unmistakable voice to the late Kurt Mühlenhaupt, who passed away in 2006.
The Kurt Mühlenhaupt Museum at Fidicinstraße 40 is dedicated to the artistic legacy of our protagonist. In the permanent exhibition, you can view the artist's oil paintings, graphics, and sculptures. The museum's organizers also invite you to chat over a cup of coffee, and perhaps you might take home a print or an art book by Kurt Mühlenhaupt. Explore the winding courtyards of the former Wittenbecher brewery and factory, which today house several theaters. Here, painters, musicians, composers, and film producers work in their studios and workshops.
In the courtyard, you will find 10 illustrated information boards about Kurt Mühlenhaupt's life and work. Audio symbols on the boards point to short audio stories from his autobiographical texts.
