Listing Overview
Not only does the Schönefeld Castle exude confidence, but so does the Schönefeld Town Hall. Until 1915, Schönefeld was an independent municipality. Today, however, the town hall stands somewhat oddly next to a busy street on the edge of the district. Schönefeld lies somewhat off the public radar. "Hypzig" is elsewhere. Perhaps that's a good thing, as this allows the district to quietly transition its rich history into an exciting future. The castle shines like new, a wondrous gem whose users carry forward the philanthropic vision of its former owner into our time. On Schönefelder Allee, which has always led from the manor and Schönefeld Church to Leipzig as a linden avenue, we encounter the architectural visions of two internationally renowned architects: Hubert Ritter, who designed the plans for the cooperative housing, and Leberecht Migge, who created Mariannenpark as a public park. The former "Imperial Post Office" near the town hall was recently renovated to be energy-efficient and historically accurate, and it was also converted to accommodate senior living. An old, closed school was reopened and modernly expanded. Schönefeld is increasingly making a name for itself as a district for a good everyday life. The growing district focuses on integrating green spaces, inclusive housing for all, and, not least, social cohesion.
