The media artist Johanna Steindorf explores themes such as migration, gender, and visibility in public spaces in relation to private spaces in her artistic practice. Her Siegen Audio Walk offers a feminist perspective on the city, intertwining current questions about cultural or socially constructed identity. The audio piece connects the biographical with the political, the social with the cultural, and nature with culture. It also includes participatory and playful elements that invite engagement.

The audio walk starts at Haus Seel, Kornmarkt 20, 57072 Siegen. At the entrance, there is a small bag that you should take with you, as you will need the items inside. You can voluntarily upload the photos taken during the audio walk to Instagram and tag them with the hashtag #siegeneraudiowalk.

Steindorf, born in 1982 in Quito, Ecuador, studied at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at the Bauhaus University Weimar.

Siegen Audio Walks is a new project in public spaces featuring site-specific audio walks in Siegen. The Siegen Art Association has invited four artists or initiatives to design and produce artistic exploration tours in Siegen—both in the real and digital realms. The project is inspired by the science of walking, which tests walking as a method for perceiving, investigating, and communicating cultural-social spaces in the city and sharing this experience with others. Walking changes one's perception, drawing attention to previously unnoticed details in the urban space, fully involving one through a story, or immersing one in dense soundscapes that atmospherically alter the view of (un)familiar places.
