Listing Overview

If all the sculptures were removed one night, who could say the next morning where each one had stood? Along the City Lake, on Creiler Square, and in front of Marl City Hall, ten audio pieces tell stories from both personal and external perspectives on the city's sculptures. These stories connect the past, present, and future, capturing the narrative of the sculptures. The acoustic tour along the sculptures bridges the invisible and the visible, making the listener part of the artworks' secrets.

In the fall of 2015, ten sculptures in the outdoor area of the Marl Sculpture Museum disappeared under silver, wooden enclosures created by artist Pia Janssen. During the time the sculptures were covered, she, along with writer Bettina Erasmy, interviewed random passersby about the outdoor art at the museum. This audio material, along with facts about the sculptors and their eras, formed the basis for the short stories Bettina Erasmy wrote for each sculpture. Under Pia Janssen's direction, ten audio pieces were created, featuring music by Block Barley and ten narrators, culminating in an audio tour.
