The smallest components of the internet are zeros and ones—this is widely known. However, over three hundred years ago, the mathematician and philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, born in 1646 in Leipzig, developed the four basic arithmetic operations for this binary system. Begin your tour at the authentic Leibniz sites in the city center: his birthplace, the church where he was baptized, his school, and the university. The tour then leads to locations thematically connected to Leibniz and the history of science in Leipzig. At Deutscher Platz, the "Thought Path" intersects with the knowledge repositories of the German National Library and the scientific hub Bio City Leipzig.
