Listing Overview
The new trend in gardening, known as "Urban Gardening," is attracting attention everywhere. Along this walk, protagonists talk about their gardens, their urban dreams, and their motivations. The "Neighborhood Gardens" and the "Annalinde Garden" represent other "urban gardens." A visit to the German Allotment Garden Museum sheds light on their historical predecessors, which have a central root in the first Schreber association in Leipzig. The garden of the Gallery for Contemporary Art and the exhibition "Hands on Urbanism 1850–2012: The Right to Green" highlight additional aspects and international connections of informal gardening.
The starting point of the walk is the garden of the Gallery for Contemporary Art. Participants include Franciska Zólyom (Director of the GfZK Leipzig), Elke Krasny (Curator of "Hands on Urbanism 1850–2012: The Right to Green"), Catarina Hildebrand (Director of the German Allotment Garden Museum), Stefanie Müller-Frank (Initiative for Contemporary Urban Development), Siegrid Hanisch and Tino Neufert (Neighborhood Gardens), Peter Bach and Monika Schöpe (Project Distel), and Bertram Weisshaar. The recordings and audio designs with city sounds and noises were created by Leipzig sound and media artist Marek Brandt. Direction and editing were handled by Bertram Weisshaar in 2013. This audio walk "Gardening in the City" was made possible with the support of the Office for Urban Green Spaces and Waters of the City of Leipzig.
