Listing Overview
Without the Beatles, Hamburg would be unimaginable, one of the Beatles is said to have remarked, and it's hard to even picture what our city would have become if the Beatles had gone to Hanover or Brunswick instead. But things turned out the way they did, and even today, countless tourists come here, dressed in suits and sporting mop-top haircuts, to visit the places where something Beatle-esque is said to have happened. However, a lot of exploitation is done in the name of the Beatles' memory. For a hefty price, the unsuspecting are allowed to pet dogs that are claimed to have been petted by the Beatles. Holes in the ground, supposedly dug by the Beatles, are showcased, and allegedly sweat-soaked clothing items of the Beatles are sold for a lot of money.
The audio guide "The Truth About the Beatles" aims to dispel these false myths. It intentionally seeks to offer a glimpse behind the Beatles' facade. In particular, it focuses on chapters that are often overlooked in other tours. For instance, the time when they were known as Beatlejaner Speeldeel, performing songs like "Hölp," "Fördach," or "Moin Jüte" with an accordion. Or Ringo Starr's love for dogs, which almost led to the Beatles being called "The Beagles."
