An audio walk through the history and present of the Lindenau Harbor. In the 1930s, Leipzig was set to have one of the most modern port facilities in Europe. However, the construction was never completed, and to this day, no ship has ever anchored in the harbor basin. Now, a completely new urban district is being developed on this old harbor site, marking the largest housing project in Leipzig in over 30 years. On foot, we set out for Lindenau Harbor and its stories. We follow a route that takes us along the water, past old warehouses, rusty tracks, and rickety machines from bygone days, eventually leading us to the new buildings of 2019. Along the way, we hear voices of people who speak not only about historical events but also share personal memories and their hopes for the future.
