Listing Overview
Experience Iceland on a counterclockwise tour along the Ring Road and some side routes. The trip is designed to last about 6 to 8 days. The journey begins along the south coast, passing the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano on the way to Vík. Along the route, you'll encounter the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the Sólheimajökull glacier, and the Dyrhólaey cape.
The highlight of this section of the trip is the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The south coast and the East Fjords also offer impressive landscapes. From Egilsstaðir, the journey continues via Mývatn to Akureyri in North Iceland. You should plan at least two days for this part. There is a longer option that includes a detour to the Tjörnes peninsula and whale watching in Húsavík.
From Akureyri, you can take a day trip along the Ring Road to Reykjavík. If you have more time, you can make detours to the Hraunfossar waterfalls and the Vatnsnes peninsula. A day trip from Reykjavík can take you to the Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir, and Þingvellir National Park.
