Since 2004, more than 150 silhouette cutouts by artist Albert Völkl have illuminated the streets of Heppenheim's old town, each depicting Hessian legends. These stories from a bygone era tell of giantesses, elves, and restless knights, of courage and cunning, of heroism and love. All the lanterns are labeled, allowing you to explore the entire Lantern Path on your own. The silhouettes illuminated by the street lanterns lead from the marketplace through narrow alleys to mysterious places and romantic corners, sparking the imagination of viewers just as storytellers did in the past.
